New HT49RA1 Holtek Remote Device Product Release

05/27/2008

With an added internal Remote function, Holtek wishes to announce a new addition to its range of LCD type microcontrollers, the HT49RA1. Having an internal 4K*15 of Program Memory, 160 bytes of Data Memory, up to 8 I/O pins and 8 input pins, the device has the capability of interfacing to a 64 key scanning switch keypad. The fully integrated LCD Driver function also enables the device to drive up to a 128 pixel LCD panel. In addition to these I/O pins, the device also includes a broad range of carrier frequency selections and carrier signal duty cycle selections, giving the device a wide choice of remote control applications, such as Universal Remote Controllers, Learning Remote Controllers and many other household appliance remote control products.

For low power timing operations, the HT49RA1 includes an internal RTC oscillator, allowing the system, when in the power down mode, to still be able to continue with timing operations and high speed program running. Additionally the device is also able to keep the LCD panel operational when in the power down mode. The various options supplied with the device enable it to be matched to the one chosen for the application. The use of RAM Mapping for the LCD driver, also ensures that the task of programming the LCD panel is greatly simplified. These features combine to provide a device that is especially suitable for remote controllers with LCD displays, such as household appliances, scales etc. The HT49RA1 only requires a 12kΩ precision resistor to be connected to its OSC1 pin to implement a 4MHz ± 2% frequency oscillator (at 25 degrees 3.0V). Additionally the HT49RA1 can still operate with voltages as low as 2.0V, and has an operating temperature range of 0°C to +50°C, and will still generate a system frequency oscillator of 4MHz ± 3%. With all these features the device can greatly simplify the design of infra-red remote control circuits and significantly reduce product costs.

As is the norm with all of Holtek’s 8-bit microcontrollers, having high noise immunity characteristics, internal watchdog and low voltage reset functions, greatly strengthens the device’s immunity against operational malfunctioning. The HT49RA1 is supplied in both 52-pin QFP and 64-pin LQFP package types and is also naturally fully supported by the Holtek HT-IDE3000 development system. This suite of tools provides full hardware and software emulation, with register read functions, logical hardware breakpoints, trace analysis functions, etc; a suite of development tools that will ensure designers have their new product designs debugged and running in as rapid and efficient time possible.
