Holtek New Product Release - 10-Pin HT48R01A/HT46R01A MCU

07/03/2008

Two new devices, the HT48R01A and HT46R01A, have now been added to Holtek’s range of ultra small outline 10-pin package Holtek microcontrollers. Common features include 1K x 14 of Program Memory, 64 bytes of Data Memory, up to 8 I/O pins, a 6-level stack and an 8-bit Timer/Event counter. Additionally the devices contain an RTC timer, an external interrupt and a complimentary buzzer pair output function. The internal Low Voltage Reset function can also be selected to have three different voltage activation levels. Both devices are supplied in ultra small 10-pin package types. The HT46R01A also contains an 8-bit 4 channel A/D converter as well as a single channel 8-bit PWM output. With all these combined features Holtek has successfully released another two new devices with excellent price/performance ratio.

The HT48R01A and HT46R01A devices encompass a range of system oscillator options including External Crystal oscillator, External RC oscillator, Internal RC oscillator and an additional function which allows the 32kHz RTC to be used together with the Internal RC oscillator. The internal RC oscillator can be chosen to have a frequency of 4MHz, 8MHz or 12MHz, the frequency of which will be valid over the full operating voltage range to within a tolerance of 5%.

One exceptionally special feature of these new devices is in their small package outlines. With a footprint outline of only 3mm x 3mm, these 10-pin MSOP ultra small packages types have an even smaller outline than 8-pin DIP/SOP packages, making them extremely suitable for those application areas where space is at a premium. With low cost, low power and high efficiency as well as their multi-functional I/O pin types, the HT48R01A and HT46R01A series of devices will see uses in a very diverse range of traditional products as well as providing creative microcontroller solutions for yet unheard of application areas.

These two new, HT48R01A and HT46R01Adevices are fully pin compatible with their predecessor devices, the HT48R01 and HT46R01, allowing common PCB usage. In addition to having an additional PA7 wake-up pin, an another additional feature is that if the RC oscillator is selected as the system clock, then the clock only needs two clock cycles to stabilise after a system wake-up, a feature which will increase operating efficiency and reduce power. One point to note is that as the old and new option tables are not the same, then if the old device is to be replaced with the new device, then the code will require rebuilding. As the HT48R01A and HT46R01A internal functions fully encompass those of the HT48R01 and HT46R01, the new devices will, in the future, replace the old devices.

Holtek naturally supplies a full set of excellent development tools to support product development for these new devices. Known as the HT-IDE3000, this suite of hardware and software tools encompasses features such as real time emulation, full memory and register access, hardware breakpoints with logical setups, full trace facilities along with many others. Product designers with tight design schedules to meet are assured of having an excellent set of tools at their disposal for rapid program development and debug. In addition to these design tools, to enable speedy and efficient programming of its OTP devices, Holtek also supplies its EW-MSR Writer.
